| Estate's description | An unfailing value… The Château Montrose was part of the château Calon Segur until the nineteenth century. It was a forgotten corner of pink heather, called “lande d’Escargeon”. In the late eighteenth century, the son of the Calon-Segur’s owner, Théodore Dumoulin, decided to clear the land and to plant vines on it. He was not mistaken by choosing this plot; indeed, these 70 hectares have a unique potential. Actually, the Château Montrose offers wines with regularity out of the ordinary. Then, he sold the château Calon-Ségur, but decided to keep the Montrose’s plot, which was ranked “second cru classé” in 1855. Thereafter, many owners have succeeded. Each has changed the castle and its installations, but always in the same spirit, improving the unique potential of château Montrose. Martin and Olivier Bouygues are the current owners of the area. The second wine, La Dame de Montrose, is certainly one of the best second wines of Saint-Estèphe… |
