| Estate's description | Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Just as for the château Pichon Longueville Baron, the area of the château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande was established by Pierre de Mazure de Rauzan. Indeed, these two areas were a single field once. In the mid-nineteenth century, the two areas were separated. La Comtesse Marie-Laure Virginie de Lalande, wife of Comte de Lalande, inherited half of the plot, which is today the château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. His brother, Raoul, Baron de Pichon, became, at the same time the owner of the parcel, called now château Pichon Longueville Baron de Pichon. Passionate about wine and its region, the Countess decided to embellish her property. Then, she asked to the architect Duphot, to propose her, a home inspired by the Hotel de Lalande, in Bordeaux. In 1855, the castle has been classified 'second cru’. Some Pichon succeeded then, but in 1925, Louis and Edouard Miailhe, bought the field. The area is, once again, administered by a woman today. Indeed, the daughter of Edouard, May Eliane de Lencquesaing is leading the field. Among the 75-hectare-area, 11 are located on the town of Saint-Julien. These parcels provide to the wines, a lot of elegance and flexibility. The vineyard is made up of 45% of cabernet sauvignon, 35% of merlot, 12% of cabernet franc and 8% of petit verdot. The château also produces a second wine, La Réserve de la Comtesse. It comes from the same area as the Grand Vin and is prepared with the same care. However, its ageing ability and its aromatic complexity are less important than the Grand Vin. |
