(...) the château Climens is ”the lord of Barsac”. With all the application and selection, displayed by the various Climens’s owners, the wine has become, in the classification of 1855, "premier cru" of Barsac. It is totaly planted in “monocépage” (100% of the vines are made of “Sémillon”). Sign of the best wines, the quality is the priority for Climens. Indeed, the wine is bottled only when the grapes’ quality is optimal. Thus, there are no vintage for 1965, 1968, 1984, 1987, 1992 and 1993, the quality was not considered sufficient to develop a “premier cru”. The second selection of grapes, which is not selected for the first wine, is used for the "second" wine of the Château Climens: the “Cyprès de Climens”. However, even for a "second" wine, the quality should be sufficient. As a result, the “Cyprès de Climens” has not been produced in 1987 and 1993. Since 1974, the Lurtons have owned the Château Climens.
