Carruades de Lafite

Carruades de Lafite : Subtil and fruity … The name of the second wine of château Lafite Rothschild comes from the "plateau des carruades”, where stood a group of parcels, which was bought by Lafite Rothschild during the nineteenth century, and which adjoined to the castle’s rump. The "Carruades de Lafite" were once called "Moulin des Carruades", and then took their current name in the 1980's.

It is a more and more refined grapes’ selection for the premier cru, which led to the birth of the Carruades. The second wine of the château is prepared with the same care as the Grand Vin. However, despite many similarities, the two wines remain different. This is due, firstly to their composition (the proportion of merlot is more important for the Carruades), and secondly to the use of different plots. Indeed, some plots are being used today, only for developing the Carruades de Lafite.
