The Captain Richard Hennessy, an Irish gentleman, who was serving in the French army, near the town of Cognac, created the house. Since 1765, he had sent cognacs to the Irish and English aristocracy. Therefore, his business took a real boom. The Hennessy’s house has performed most of its turnover with exports. The son of Richard Hennessy, James, gave this name to the current brand. The Hennessy’s house was the first cognac’s house to export to the Asian market. In 1870, Maurice Hennessy, created the name XO, which is a blend of very old brandies. Eight generations and 240 years of history have enabled the Hennessy’s house to be the global leader in cognac. The Ellipse cognac and cognac Richard are the rarest of the house. Recently, the house has released « Beauté du siècle », created by the artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, which was produced up to 100 copies.
