  Estate's description

Cos d’Estournel
The origins of this famous Saint-Estèphe go back to Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel. In the nineteenth century, he inherited vineyards, located near the village of Cos, and decided to exploit this magnificent region, which will become the Cos d'Estournel. Thanks to the reputation of its wine and in particular, its trade with India, he was nicknamed "the Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe." He died in 1853 and will not see his field, ranked as “second cru classé” in 1855. Many owners have then succeeded. Since 2000, Michel Reybier, has been leading the field. Symbol of longevity and elegance, the wines of Cos d'Estournel are part of the Saint-Estèphe’s elite. Despite some middling vintages in the 90’s and a constant evolution of the château Montrose and the château Calon-Ségur, Cos d'Estournel remains the most famous of Saint-Estèph’s wines.
