Estate's description Château Pichon-Longueville (Baron de Pichon) Château Pichon-Longueville is now located in Pauillac, between the villages of Saint-Julien and Saint-Lambert. This is more or less at that place, where was already in the Middle Ages, the original château Longueville, who was called "The Building", "La Bastide" or "La Baderne." This "Baderne" was replaced in the nineteenth century by the current castle. The story of the château goes back to the early seventeenth century. Bernard de Pichon Longueville became baron, through his marriage with Anne Daffis de Longueville, daughter of Baron de Longueville. (Longueville was a small village, located near Agen). They had two children, who gave two different branches of Pichon. On one side, Francis, who married Benoïte, is at the head of the Pichon de Parempuyre, who became well known on the political world. And on the other side, there was Jacques Pichon, Baron de Longueville. He married Teresa Measures of Rauzan, daughter of Pierre de Rauzan, and was at the origin of the branch, which developed the vineyards. Indeed, his stepfather, Pierre, began to plant vines on some Saint-Lambert’s plots. This “vine Wizard” decided to do the same on this land (near from château Latour). Jacques decided to develop the grapes’ culture. His son expanded the vineyard and transmitted it to its descendants. Joseph, one of them, gave the field to his five children. The field was divided on one side between his three daughters and another, and on the other side, to his two boys. However, only his son, Raoul and her daughter, Marie-Laure Virginie were really in charge of them. After the death of Raoul, the field was finally split in two: between the "Countess", which gave the Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, and the "Baron", which gave the château Pichon-Longueville Baron de Pichon. Raoul’s cousin inherited the part, at the death of Raoul, who did not have any descendant. Raoul is the originator of the current castle, which has replaced the old "Bastide." The castle is inspired by the château d’Azay le Rideau, one of the famous castles of François the 1st. Thereafter, in 1933, the last Pichon-Longueville sold the estate to the family Bouteiller. In 1987, the group AXA Millésimes acquired the area and began numerous renovations. This area of approximately 70 hectares was listed in 1855, "second cru". It offers wines marked by elegance and finesse, with an important ageing potential. The second wine, Les Tourelles de Longueville, was produced, for the first time in 1986. The parcel of vines, called "Sainte Anne" is used for this second wine.
