| Estate's description | Château Pape Clément Used to be called “vignoble de la Mothe”, the château Pape Clement belonged, in the late thirteenth century, to Bernard de Goth, archbishop of Bordeaux. He was best known then under the name of Clement V, when it became pope. He gave his name to the property. The château Pape Clement remained the property of the Archdiocese of Bordeaux until the revolution. Then, several owners succeeded to the head of the château Pape Clement. On 8 June 1937, most of the area was destroyed by a hail storm. In 1939, Paul Montagne bought the area and decided to make every effort to restore the château Pape Clement to its old reputation. Today, his descendants, Paul and Leo Montagne, are leading the field. The château is now producing a Great red wine, “grand cru classé” of Graves in 1953, a white wine of Graves, a second wine, called “le Clémentin du château Pape Clément”, and a third wine, called “le Prélat du château Pape Clément”. These wines offer a unique smooth to those who will be able to wait few years… |
