Estate's description Château Gilette: « The Antiquary of wine ». In 1934, when the Médeville arrived in château Gilette, everything is to get done. Due to a lack of installations, wood and buyers, they decided to keep the wine in barrels. In 1945, the vintage 1934 kept in barrel during the war, is finally released for buyers. This château Gilette is uncommon, he had such a freshness and a nice aromatic palette, unique for a wine, especially for one, kept 11 years in barrel. The Médeville decided then to age the wines between 15 and 20 years before their release. They are producing a wine from the Sauternes appellation, with different degrees of acidity: demi-sec, sec, doux and “crème de tête”. (The more recent vintages of château Gilette are only produced in Crème de Tête. We can find the demis-secs, doux… mostly on the ancient vintages). This exceptional Sauternes is done from muscadelle, sémillon and sauvignon. Once they are harvested, the grapes are chosen through 3 to 8 successive pickings, depending on the vintages. The 4.5 hectares of château Gilette produce between 3000 and 6000 bottles. Located on the village of Preignac (one of the 5 villages from the Sauternes-Barsac appellation), the château gets its name from the locality “Gilette” on where he’s located today. Today, Julie Gonet-Médeville is leading the château Gilette. The vineyards Gonet-Médeville produce another Sauternes, Château Les Justices, but he is only kept 2 years in barrels.
