| Estate's description | Château Figeac: Extended on nearly 40 hectares, the Château Figeac is one of the biggest of Saint-Emilion. The origins date back to the Gallo-Roman time, where a man named Figeacus built a villa on the current site field. Many owners have succeeded in Figeac and numerous parcels of the old field have been sold. Today, Thierry Manoncourt is the master of the house. Normally, wines from Saint-Emilion are composed of merlot, and the cabernet comes only to complete the assembly. But the vineyards of Château Figeac are planted of 70% cabernet (half cabernet franc and half cabernet sauvignon) and 30% merlot. This allows Château Figeac, to offer a wine available (after 3 to 6 years depending on the vintage) much younger than the majority of the Saint-Emilion’s wines. However, Château Figeac’s wines also offer a huge potential of preserving capacity. The estate produces a second wine, « La Grange Neuve de Figeac », which is mainly coming from the youngest vines. |
