| Estate's description | Château Beychevelle: The Château Beychevelle’s history goes back to the sixteenth century. At that time, Jean-Louis de la Valette Nogaret, Duke of Epernon, was the estate’s owner. The Château Beychevelle’s emblem can be found on the wine’s label: a ship with a Griffon (mythical beast, pulling the chariot of Dionysus, god of wine). Indeed, ships which were passing in front of the castle would likely lower their sails as an allegiance sign to Duke. Beychevelle means "Drop-Sailing." The estate is now approximately 250 hectares big, on which 90 are dedicated to vines. Château Beychevelle’s wines are accessible from their youth. Despite its good rank on the 1855’s classification, it remains at an affordable price for a Saint-Julien. The area also produces a second wine, l’amiral de Beychevelle and a Haut-Medoc, les brulières de Beychevelle, located on AOC Haut-Medoc parcels of the Château Beychevelle. |
