This second cru classé was founded in the eighteenth century by the Knight Joseph Stanislas Gruaud. He died at the end of the eighteenth century, and his unique heir, Jean-Sebastien Larose took back the Château Gruaud- Larose. Due to the succession, the field was divided into 2 parts, and then reconstructed in one in 1935. (...)
(...) Since 1997, the Merlauts have owned the Château Gruaud-Larose. On the 82 hectares of its vineyards, the castle also produces a second wine, Sarget de Gruaud-Larose (the name comes from the Sarget de la Fontaine’s family, who was the owner of a part of the area in the nineteenth century).
