A dark and mysterious château, … Château Ausone’s wine is certainly the most mysterious of the Saint-Emilion’s appellation. The origin of the name is not sure, however, this Château has been named by its founder, Jean Cantenat. He would have given this name in 1786, after discovering some Gallo-Roman ruins probably coming from the villa of Ausone. Ausone was a poet and a key figure in Saint-Emilion at this time. (...)

Its clay, its geographical location and its climate allows this grand cru classé of Saint-Emilion to be one of the most famous wines of Bordeaux. Since the arrival of Alain Vauthier, co-director and estate’s owner since 1997, Château Ausone has regained all its nobility. With care and a very high demand, he allows the Château Ausone’s wines to offer a strong tannic structure, combining with finesse, balance, richness and elegance. Originating from old vines (over 50 years), the wines offer a keeping potential from 50 to 100 years. It should be noted that the wine reach its maturity after two decades.
